Blasting shop

In addition to painting objects, Paint Shop Gouweleeuw is also specialised in blasting various objects and components. Our blasting shop has an impressive blasting cabin of 35 x 8 meters.

What is blasting?

Blasting is shooting small angular particles against the object under high pressure. The collision of the particles with the object ensures that the object is cleaned and irregularities disappear.

Why blast?

Delivering high-quality paint work starts with a good pre-treatment. When there is a rust spot on an object, it can be removed with a needle hammer. When there are multiple rust spots on a part, we proceed to blasting it.

In our blasting shop we use sharp-edged stainless steel blasting media, which ensures an extremely consistent blast impact (RZ value). Thanks to the precise blast impact, there are no paint complaints, such as a dull gloss. Blasting provides a good basis so that an object can be painted with high quality.

Different degrees of cleanliness can be used in the blasting room:

  1. SA 1: light blasting; almost all loose mill scale, rust and other coatings are removed (blasting or flapping).
  2. SA 2: virtually all mill scale, rust and other coatings are thoroughly removed, resulting in a greyish material colour.
  3. SA 2,5: careful blasting; all impurities are removed and can only be seen as a light shadow or discoloration.
  4. SA 3: silver blank blasting; all remaining particles, including dust, have been completely removed. The material now has a uniform metallic colour.

Various completed blasting projects

With our many years of experience in blasting in our blasting shop, we have successfully blasted and subsequently painted many projects.

Below you will find some of the projects we have completed.

The chassis of the Volvo FH 540

We sprayed this Volvo FH 540 in the corporate colours of Jac v.d. Vegt & Zn. B.V. The Scandinavian climate had left its mark on the chassis of this loading crane. At the request of the customer, the chassis was completely blasted in our blasting shop. The truck had to be partially disassembled for this and the parts that were not to be blasted were carefully masked. After blasting the chassis in the blasting shop, the loading crane was completely reassembled and then sprayed in the desired layer of paint.

24-Wheel mega windmill transporter

For our Scottish customer McFadyens Transport Ltd. we painted a windmill transporter. We disassembled the wheels and blasted them in the blasting shop. After this, the wheels were sprayed with a primer layer and then with a silver lacquer layer. Watch the extensive process video of this project here.

Recently, we finished the renovation project of the Demag CC 1500 for our German customer Colonia Spezialfahrzeuge – Gottfried Schönges GmbH & Co. KG. We repainted the basic machine. We also blasted and painted a total of more than 150 meters of boom parts.
